Confidentiality and Release of Information

The right to privacy and confidentiality is a high priority at Learning Support Services. Disclosure of information conforms to the requirements of law and the college's policies ( Board of Trustees: Policy Manual, 4070 RELEASE OF STUDENT INFORMATION ).

Student information is protected be the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). LSS records are maintained and secured. Only LSS staff has immediate access to these files.

If a student wishes to have information about his/her disability shared with others, the student must provide written request/authorization to LSS. Before giving such authorization, the student should understand the purpose of the release and to whom the information is being released.

A student has the right to review his/her own LSS file with reasonable notification and a written request.  Written requests for any copies follow the college’s requirements for copy charges and access to files is limited to the college’s record retention schedule.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your privacy or the limits of confidentiality, we encourage you to discuss these with a LSS Program Specialist or Director.
