About I B Remsen
I B Remsen graduated from the University of Chicago Laboratory High School and went on to study Anthropology and Art at Antioch College. He took a year off from his undergraduate studies to attend Capellagarden, a folk high school in Sweden founded by Carl Malmsten where he studied ceramics, weaving and furniture making. He did his graduate work at the University of Michigan, studying under John Stephenson, Bob Stull, and Aarre Lahti. For almost forty years he operated a ceramic arts studio selling his work in festivals and art galleries. His work was featured in the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, the DIA and the Smithsonian. In 1982 he was awarded the dinnerware commission for Bill and Helen Milliken in a statewide competition. His work is in the permanent collection of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and the Michigan Historical Museum. He really enjoys working with his students and appreciates the support of his colleagues at WCC.
