About Hava Levitt-Phillips
In my long, checkered career, I have driven a forklift, put the tops on the bottles at a small juice factory, taught preschool, and painted houses. I spent most of my 'first career' waiting tables all across the country and loved it. Eventually, though, I realized I needed to do something less physically demanding and that would allow me to make a more meaningful contribution to my community.
Helping people was at the core of my love for waitressing, and my passion for writing and reading and all things school-related has been with me pretty much all my life. Thus, as I finally went to college, I realized I wanted to teach literature and writing.
I started the loooong transition from server to teacher at WCC. I transferred to EMU to finish my BA, and then went right back to EMU to complete my MA in English Literature, with cognate work in the Teaching of Writing. I quickly came to love helping people with their writing as a private writing consultant, writing tutor, and part-time instructor at WCC and EMU, before becoming a full-time instructor here at WCC. It is my honor and delight to serve our community at this institution that has made such a profoundly positive difference in my own life.
