Sustainability efforts at Washtenaw Community College are conducted by several different groups and individuals across campus. Some of the groups most directly involved include the following:
The WCC Sustainability Council is charged by the President of the college to guide the implementation of the WCC Climate Action and Sustainability Plan, and to provide leadership in integrating sustainability concepts into all core functions of the college.
The Sustainability Literacy Task Force
A group of faculty and staff that works to promotes sustainability in the curriculum and “extracurriculum” through yearly academic themes which include book reads, lectures, tours and more. The academic year 2015-2016 was designated the “Year of Conservation” by the Task Force. Previous years focused on water, energy and food. The themes are all supported by Research Guides created by WCC librarians.
This department oversees Building Maintenance, Building Services, Campus Services, Design and Construction, Electrical Services, Energy Management, Grounds Maintenance, Mechanical Systems and Recycle Operations.
Student Development and Activities
This department supports many different sustainability efforts across campus through event support, communications to students and setting up student clubs.
Marketing and Public Relations
This department provides media support for sustainability projects through on campus publications and through community publications and electronic media.
Individual faculty members and departments support sustainability through lectures, labs, regular assignments, field trips, service projects, extra credit assignments, poetry readings, and many other venues.
