On The Record
Tom Lamb is a new board member of the Washtenaw Community College Foundation, starting his first term last August, but he is already a huge proponent of WCC.
“I think every community college is different,” he said, “but this one is special. It offers great programs to people of all ages so they can go back and fine-tune or continue their education.”
Lamb, the general manager of the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti Eagle Crest Resort, is active in the community. He served as the chair of the Ann Arbor Convention and Visitors Bureau, and he is currently a member of the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Accommodations Ordinance Commission of Washtenaw County.
Lamb enjoys supporting the Foundation’s mission of providing scholarships.
“My son is in college at Michigan State University, so I know the cost of getting an education. I am happy to do whatever I can to help raise money for scholarships.”
WCC’s partnerships are also an important benefit to the community, Lamb added. “I think the college does a great job bringing in outside organizations like the plumbers, pipe fitters and iron workers,” he said.
“Those organizations give back so much to the county. It keeps people working and hotels and restaurants going during an otherwise slow time.”
Perhaps most importantly, Lamb is greatly impressed by the WCC faculty and staff. “That’s a solid reason I believe in the college,” he said, “and that includes President Dr. Rose Bellanca. There are tremendous people who serve the college and the community well.”
